Two vehicle owners fall victim to catalytic converter thefts

News

Two separate reports came into the Frederick police department about car thefts, but thieves didn’t steal the car.

Police said thieves took out the catalytic converter out of two vehicles over the last two days on Field Point Boulevard. One of the victims heard a loud rumbling noise when turning on the vehicle, and immediately called police when realizing the catalytic converter was no longer on the car.

“It’s very expensive to get these repaired. It can range from 500 dollars to 1500 dollars. Park in a well-lit area, park where there’s other vehicles nearby, be aware of your surroundings, and if you somebody out just kind of looking at vehicles or looking under vehicles always call your police department,” said Michele Bowman of the Frederick County Police.

If you have any information about the incident, you are asked to call Frederick Police.
