Two dead, one injured in single-vehicle crash at Maugans Ave. exit of I-81

News

Two people are dead, and one hospitalized following a single-vehicle crash on Friday morning at the Maugans Avenue exit off of Interstate-81 in Hagerstown.

The accident happened around 8 a.m. in the area of Shawley Drive. Carly Hose with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said a blue Nissan Versa was getting off of I-81 southbound to Maugans Avenue, when it came across the exit and hit a concrete median. Following that impact, the vehicle continued across the road and ended up in a grassy area on its side.

Hose said the driver of the Versa, who was airlifted for medical treatment, possibly had a medical emergency before the crash, that person later passed after arriving to the hospital.

The driver was identified as Doris Neely, 74, of Harrisburg. James Ransome, 82, of York, the front seat passenger, was pronounced dead on the scene.
