The suspect wanted for several bank robberies in two states was arrested last week — on the other side of the country.
According to Bridgeport Police Chief John Bumba, Charles Gibson, Jr. of Washington, Pennsylvania was arrested at an intersection in San Bernardino, California on Thursday afternoon.
Law enforcement tracked Gibson to California, and were able to locate him because of an interaction with a homeless shelter. When he was arrested, Gibson confessed to both robberies in Ohio (in Bridgeport and in St. Clairsville) as well as two additional robberies in Maryland.
Gibson was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals and is being held at High Desert Detention Center in San Bernardino.
Before his trial in Ohio, Gibson will first be extradited to Maryland, according to Chief Bumba.
