Fairfax County Police have confirmed that a man who apparently threatened an on-duty deputy outside of Inova Fairfax Hospital late Monday night has died, after he was shot by the deputy.
Authorities said shortly before 10 p.m., a suspicious man with “some sort of edged weapon” was seen at a bus stop on the campus in Falls Church, where he threatened the deputy. That deputy then fired his weapon, striking the man.
The suspect was hospitalized with what was initially believed to be non-life threatening injuries, but he later died. No police were injured during the incident, and the deputy involved has been placed on routine administrative leave during the course of an internal investigation.
The hospital was placed on lockdown, but police said there is no longer a threat to the public.
