Saving lives in work zones

As the weather warms up, you’ll likely see more construction on your daily commute, but staying alert can save lives.
Transportation officials gathered to remind drivers about staying alert in construction zones during Work Zone Safety Awareness Week.
This year’s theme is “Work zone safety is in your hands; drive toward zero crashes.”
According to OSHA, one in five worker deaths in 2015 were in construction zones. Advocates for work zone safety stress the importance of being cautious in work zones so that loved ones can arrive home safely.
“I can’t say it enough; work zone safety is in your hands. Your actions behind the wheel can prevent needless tragedy,” said Laurie Moser, whose husband was killed in a work zone.
In 2015, six people were killed in Maryland in work zone-related crashes.
