Rockville residents sign cards for victims of violence in Barcelona and Charlottesville

News
The recipient of Montgomery County’s Humanitarian Award in 2016 took to the streets of downtown Rockville Friday to honor victims of the recent violence in Charlottesville and Barcelona.

Residents wrote messages on cards for the victims.

One card will be placed in front of the Spanish Eembassy in Washington, D.C.

The other will be sent to the mother of Heather Heyer, who was killed allegedly by a white supremacist who rammed his car into a crowd of counter protestors.

Rocky Twyman said the clash in Charlottesville is hauntingly similar to the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960’s.

“She is truly a civil rights martyr,” Twyman said. “My heart just goes out to her mother.”

A rally will be held at Calverton Baptist Church in Silver Spring Saturday evening to fight hate around the world.
