A body was found in Cunningham Falls State Park on Friday morning.
According to Maryland Natural Resources Police, a person who was hunting for mushrooms called police around 11:30 am Friday morning saying that they saw human remains.
Maryland Natural Resources Police Spokeswoman Candy Thomson, says the body was found in the park in the “wild land” area about 500 feet from Catoctin Hollow Road near route 15 south. Police added that the body was so badly decomposed that they are not able to tell if the victim is male or female.
The Medical Examiners office and the Maryland State Police Crime Lab assisted with the investigation.
A cadaver sniffing K-9 unit was also used because the remains were spread out.
Police say the remains were turned over to the Medical Examiners office in Baltimore where they will be examined.
Maryland Natural Resources police say they will be working with local police departments to see if there are any outstanding missing person’s reports.
They added that this investigation is on- going.
