Waynesboro YMCA expanding child care programs

Pennsylvania

Waynesboro’s YMCA is expanding their before and after child-care program in time for the start of the school year.

The expansion will increase from the current 26 children to 48. The YMCA offers child care on site at each elementary school within the district. Waynesboro YMCA currently has five sites. Staff say within the last three weeks, they saw a need to expand the program, which will be offered in Hooverville, Mowery, Summitview, Fairview and Greencastle Elementary Schools.

“There’s no need for them to find a neighbor or allow the child to stay with a sibling,” said Amanda Gietka, Executive Director at the Waynesboro YMCA. “They know that they can be dropped off. Our program is licensed, which means we have standards. We’re inspected by the state so it gives them a peace of mind that their child is in a safe environment.”

The child care program begins as early as 6:30 a.m. until the start of school and directly after school until 6 p.m.
