New Pennsylvania DUI law contains harsher penalties

Pennsylvania

A new law that took effect Dec. 23 will enact tougher penalties on repeat DUI offenders.

DUI offenders will face felony charges for drivers’ fourth offense. According to Act 153 of 2018, any drunk driver who is on their third offense and contains a B.A.C. twice the limit will also face felony charges.

According to the Borough of Waynesboro Chief of Police James Sourbier, he typically sees situations of drunk driving near the holidays.

“The harsher penalties seem appropriate for those who desire to repeatedly violate the law and put health welfare and safety of our community members at risk,” said Sourbier.
