After being built nearly a decade ago, North Hagerstown High School is celebrating making the final payment on the Mike Callas stadium.
The stadium was built in 2007. It cost about $5 million and was funded mostly by donations to the school. Many alumni remember North High before it had a stadium.
According to athletic booster president, Doug Fiery, this goes beyond the brick and mortar of the stadium and represents a greater partnership within the community.
“It was very much a community project, and we really feel that hopefully with North High doing this public-private partnership, it’ll encourage other schools within the county to look at ways to fund projects that they have coming up in the future,” Fiery said.
Fiery said it’s a relief to have the loan paid off.
