Update: The man who lit himself on fire near the White House on Wednesday afternoon died of his injuries later that evening, police said. He was identified as Arnav Gupta. The Metropolitan Police Department took over the investigation.
A man reportedly lit himself on fire near the White House, according to the United States Park Police. Both USPP and the United State Secret Service responded shortly before 12:30 Wednesday.
The man was on the Ellipse near 15th and Constitution Avenue and was extinguished and taken to the hospital for treatment. His condition was not released. The location and proximity to the White House South Lawn can be seen on Google Maps:

The incident remains under investigation by the U.S. Park Police Criminal Investigation Division.
