On Thursday, Williamsport High School held their Scholar Athlete College Celebration for the very first time.
The event was put on to honor the 13 students who will continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. Some of the honorees will stay local and attend schools such as Hagerstown Community College and Shepherd University, while Tayquon Johnson will head down south to play football for Clemson University. The students say it feels good to be recognized for their hard work.
“It’s just awesome to have everybody out here. A lot of the community to recognize everybody here. It’s really just well-deserved because all the hard work and stuff we put in playing everyday. It really means a lot as students,” said Corey Walters, a senior baseball player committed to play at Hagerstown Community College.
Some of the other students will attend schools such as East Stroudsburg University, McDaniel College, Fairmount State University along with other schools.
