WCPS holds open house for Youth Apprenticeship Program

Maryland

On Thursday, Washington County Public Schools held an open house for their Youth Apprenticeship Program.

The Youth Apprenticeship Program has been in Washington County for two years and gives students hands on experience in the workforce. Kelly Schulz, with the Maryland Department of Labor Licensing and Regulation, spoke on the success of the program and how it has benefited both students and business owners.

“We knew what the benefits for the students would be, to be able to advance their skills, their on the job training in occupations and industries that they may have not known existed at time, but what we did not know is the increase in the amount of productivity the businesses would get from that,” said Schulz.

Schulz says the program, which is currently in Frederick and Washington counties, will soon be all throughout the state of Maryland.
