Maryland

Washington County Public Schools ranked in the top 10 schools with the highest graduation rate statewide.

According to the Maryland report card, Washington County Public Schools has a graduation rate of approximately 92 percent. Officials at Western Heights Middle credit their new academic after school program, “Beyond the Bell” for preparing students.

The Beyond the Bell program gives students the opportunity to receive additional help in reading and math material. Former student turned teacher, Betsy Warner, believes customizing each students’ needs for academic success is the best route every teacher should take.

“I think when students feel safe and feel loved and feel comfortable like they can have fun, they’re more willing to take risks,” Warner said.

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has posted new Maryland Report Cards containing performance data for Maryland’s public schools.
