Washington County community creates snow emergency plan via social media

Maryland

Facebook group Whats Going on in Hagerstown announced it’s snow emergency plan for severe winter weather.

In hopes of reaching residents through social media, the admins of this page said this is to alert people who are avid on the site.

Page creator, Chris Brewer, said the admins asked members to post things including road conditions and current photos regarding winter weather that occurred.

“We wanted to be sure people were being safe and knowing not to travel unless they absolutely have to,” Brewer said.

The admins even changed its banner photo to alert residents of the snow emergency plan. In addition to this, the group turned on its post-approval to isolate the amount of nonweather-related posts that appeared on the page.

As of now, the page has approximately 21,300 members. According to Brewer, page admins will notify that the emergency is lifted when the post-approval is turned off and the banner photo is changed back.

WDVM also offers a weather app that you can easily download onto your phone, download link here.
