United Way of Washington County unveils report of ALICE households

Maryland

President and CEO of United Way in Washington County presented the county commissioners with a report of ALICE households in the county.

Guinn Rogers, president and CEO of United Way, shared that in 2016, with a population of 150,292, about 28 percent of households were considered ALICE households.

An ALICE household earns more than the Federal Poverty Level however, less than the basic cost of living for the county.

“[ALICE is for] folks who are working but are kind of right on the edge where if anything happens to them, if their car breaks down, if they miss some work if they have a family emergency it could be anything,” Rogers said.
