United States Senator Ben Cardin visited Hagerstown’s Volvo facility Thursday morning.
Cardin’s “Made in Maryland” tour highlights diverse products being produced in Maryland and companies who are reinvesting in their employees and local communities. Cardin said that his tour has helped tremendously for him to have the chance to listen to local business’s needs and bring real ideas back to Washington.
“We are so proud of what Volvo-mac truck does here,” said Cardin. “It’s the best in the country of what they do with the powertrain for heavy trucks. We are very proud that they’re here in Maryland, but they not only create jobs but pride in our state on what we contribute to in our transportation and economy of our country.”
Volvo Powertrain facility in Hagerstown manufactures Volvo engines and manual transmissions right here in Maryland, and Cardin said he was impressed with the facilities new updates.
“They’ve expanded since the last time I’ve been here, it’s amazing,” said Cardin. “They’ve expanded their equipment, they’ve expanded their capacity, they do more of the production of the whole powertrain right here in Hagerstown. And, they take great pride in the gold bulldog which means it’s all done here. We’re proud of how they’ve expanded, more employees, that’s always good creating more jobs. All that done right here in Hagerstown.”
Cardin has been serving as the Senior U.S. Senator from Maryland since 2006 and is always making additional stops on his made in Maryland tour.
