Two Hagerstown men charged in connection to Funkstown shooting

A second man has been arrested in connection to a shooting in Funkstown, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Antoine Malone, 27, has been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted second-degree murder and other charges.

Malone is well known in the Hagerstown community. If you can recall, Malone was a community activist who in the aftermath of the pepper spray incident with the Hagerstown Police Department in 2016, was pushing for more community-oriented policing in Hagerstown. Malone was working with the police department to teach at risk kids in school to trust officers through a mentorship program. 

A man has been charged in connection to a shooting that occurred last month, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Raoul Smith, 38, of Hagerstown has been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder among other charges.

Through their investigation, detectives learned the shooting stemmed from an altercation that started at Joker’s Bar and Grill on West Baltimore Street in Funkstown. Surveillance footage shows Smith firing four rounds from a handgun while chasing a van. No one was injured but the van was struck.

Smith is currently being held at the Washington County Detention Center on no bond.
