Tractor Supply donates to help grow Community Garden

Maryland

The city of Hagerstown received a donation from Tractor Supply Distribution Center for its Community Garden.

Tractor Supply donated a hose reel and hoses, weed killer, organic fertilizer, soil, wildflower seeds and various tools to be used in the garden located on South Potomac Street.

The mission behind the community garden is to offer and maintain organic garden plots in the city and give people in the community the opportunity to grow things like vegetables and flowers.

“We’re fortunate that we have that type of product that we can sponsor and give back to the community with this type of thing. That is what tractor supply is all about,” said Mick Heckman, the General Manager at Tractor Supply.

“It just really builds community amongst the gardeners and it brings fresh food often to people who don’t get that because of food deserts, especially in inner city,” Hagerstown Distribution Center Operations Specialist, Bonnie Kauffman added.

Twenty six plots are rented each year in the garden. Applications from new gardeners are accepted at the beginning of the year.
