Simple steps to stay safe while using rideshare services

Following the story of a South Carolina student who died after mistaking a car for an Uber, here are some tips to stay safe while using rideshare services.

  • Know your driver’s name
  • See if the make and model is as what the app says
  • Double check the license plate

“If someone is not an uber, they know that you’re waiting because when you’re looking at your app, and they see you with suitcases or whatever at your feet like you’re going on a trip, a predator or somebody who knows you’re waiting on a cab could pull over and offer you a ride,” said William Wiesner, Uber driver

In Maryland and several states, laws against smoking in indoor workplaces apply to rideshare vehicles, so be wary if the vehicle smells like cigarettes.
