Sheriff’s Office: Deputy killed in crash was ‘family man’ with big heart

Maryland

By now news has spread that a Washington County Sheriff’s Office sergeant was killed in a motorcycle crash on I-81 Wednesday, but you might not know the man behind the badge.

Sgt. Chris Howard was an avid Patriots fan with a good sense of humor, which served him well in their recent loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.

Co-workers said he was one of their family members and bended over backwards to help anyone, no matter how ridiculous the request.

A story that proves this is when Howard volunteered to be Santa Claus during 2016’s Shop with the Sheriff when the original Santa backed out at the last minute.

His coworkers said there’s no telling how many children he protected by investigating and arresting child predators.
