Leaders of the Ruthann Monroe Summer Basketball League are working to upgrade the basketball courts at Wheaton Park in Hagerstown.
Ebonie Williams, owner of the league, informed the Hagerstown council of needed upgrades. Williams says they are looking to replace the poles and backboards, along with giving the courts a new coating system. The project is estimated to cost $30,000. Williams has already raised $5,000 for this cause and she says the league has a lot of history and believes it’s time for the courts to have an upgrade.
“I have a really huge vision for it. If you watched New York City leagues or even D.C leagues, you see the magnitude of this. And I truly believe our summer league is Hagerstown’s best kept secret,” said Williams.
Rodney Tissue, Hagerstown city engineer, informed the council there is about $25,000 of excess funds in the Community Block Development Grant that can go towards the project.
