Relay for Life flamingos and signs stolen

Maryland

Relay for Life has been raising money by placing purple flamingos and signs in different locations around Washington County, every week until the June event, but those efforts hit an unexpected turn.

The signs and flamingos were taken from the location in Clear Spring, right off of route 40 by Thompson Towing.

Two of the flamingos were spared, but they are all that remain.

The cost to replace the flamingos and signs is about $450, which is equal to the cost of 9 road to recovery rides.

Relay for Life tells us they will not be replacing them, unless they are provided with a donation to do so.

“It does put a damper on our fundraising activities, like I said we were starting to build momentum with this event. It’s not going to ultimately stop our ultimate goal which is to fight back against cancer. This is a setback, but we will preserve and we will continue to fight,” said Missy DeHaven of Washington County Relay for Life.

If anyone has any information about the stolen signs and flamingos, they are asked to contact the Washington County Sheriffs Department.
