REAL ID’s to be mandatory for Maryland residents to catch flights in 2020

Maryland

Transportation Security Administration officials are beginning to spread the word that in October of 2020, it will be required to show a “REAL ID” before boarding a plane. A Maryland REAL ID has a star in a circle on the upper right hand corner, which officials say is hard to duplicate. They hope this will increase security when it comes to air travel. But why start spreading the information now?

“The closer the deadline comes, the longer the lines will be at the DMV. Prepare now, it never hurts to have that information or that updated license,” explained Lisa Farbstein, a spokesperson for TSA.

An important note for those with a license about to expire: instead of renewing the same license and having to change to a REAL ID ater, you should get the REALID now.
