PETA speaks out about viral compassionate idioms tweet

Maryland

Over the last few days a tweet from the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, otherwise known as PETA, has gone viral.

The tweet took every day idioms that people use involving animals and changed them to be more compassionate towards animals. They say it’s a step to practice showing compassion for animals through speech and hopefully that’ll rub off in treatment of animals.

“Just as it is absolutely unacceptable to use other kinds of hateful language, racist language, or homophobic, or sexist language, just be conscience of phrases that trivialize those animals,” said Jennifer Behr.

The group’s theme of their viral tweet was that words matter and this is a start to end speciesism.
