Person transported to hospital after driving car in Cushwa Basin

Maryland

WILLIAMSPORT, Md. (WDVM) — A person is in unknown condition after their car was found in the water at Cushwa Basin on W. Potomac Street.

The call was dispatched around 2:30 Thursday afternoon for a car that drove into the Cushwal Basin and was upside down in the water.

The person, whose identity has not been released, was taken to Meritus Medical Center.

Officials believe he is the only person that was in the car. Officials did say they will do an additional check of the water for additional passengers. According to the parks service, this is not the first incident a car has driven into the water at this location.

“This is our main visitor center for this area, so it is a sharp turn on route 11, so just use caution coming down from Williamsport and making that left turn onto route 11 into West Virginia,” said chief ranger, Ed Wenschhof.

The incident is still under investigation.
