Meritus Medical Center received Magnet Recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
According to Chief Nursing Officer Melanie Heuston, if it weren’t for her staff and other key players, she feels that it would have been a little more difficult to receive such an accreditation.
“I feel like this will be the highlight of every nurse’s career who works here, and I’m proud that I was helping them to lead it, as I said, they were well on that journey before I walked in the door,” Houston said.
The hospital also received two exemplary citations, including one for enhanced security as well as transformational leadership.
The citations indicate that the hospital went above and beyond its measures to ensure hospital safety, officials said.
According to a release, Meritus is the only hospital in Western Maryland to receive Magnet status. The release also reports only 8 percent of hospitals nationwide have earned this recognition.
Meritus posted its live video of staff receiving the news on Facebook.
