The Maryland Board of Directors have finalized the design for a new five level Maryland Theatre expansion project.
Board officials say the project is now fully financed by the State Department of Commerce, Board of County Commissioners and two banks. The board hired general contractor Morgan-Keller Construction to complete the 31,822 square foot expansion. Maryland Theatre officials say the expansion will transform the historic theatre into a performing arts complex that will include the arts, education and business to Downtown Hagerstown.
“It expands the generations. We host two year old little girls on the stage in their dance costumes and we dance older folks who have been at the movie theater so there is something for everyone,” said Maryland Theatre Executive Director, Jessica Green.
The expansion project is scheduled to be reviewed Tuesday by the Board of County Commissioners, and must be approved by both the commissioners and the State of Maryland before the contract is finalized.
