Learning how to save the environment was a topic of discussion Wednesday night at the Washington County Free Library in Hagerstown.
Representatives from local environmental groups came together for a forum open to the public. Members of the Boonsboro GreenFest informed the crowd of simple things they can do, such as utilizing reusable bags. While David Barrow, group chair of the Sierra Club Catoctin Group, stressed the importance of using energy more efficiently, which in turn can help people lower their energy bills.
“When you do things more efficiently, you can actually be more comfortable, you’re not giving things up, but in the long run, you can reduce your energy costs dramatically. In my case, I took a $6,000 year utility bill down to less than 500,” said Barrow.
Recently, Maryland became the first state in the country to ban single use foam containers. The measure goes into effect in July of 2020.
