Joining the #9pmroutine can potentially prevent being a victim of theft

Maryland

In efforts to help prevent theft, everyone is encouraged to join the #9pmroutine.

The 9pm routine is meant to remind anyone and everyone to check a few simple things before going to bed each night.

The routine includes locking the doors to your home and car, securing all valuables and turning on outside lights.

One local mother tells us this is something she does every night and is sharing this with the community to remind others that theft can be prevented.

Elizabeth Malone said, “It is just a good routine to get into to be safe. We had break-ins in vehicles in our local area and I don’t want to be a victim of that. I just want to let others know to be aware of themselves.”

Smithsburg Police Officers tell us that there are criminals who go to towns and cities in search of people who leave their doors unlocked to steal their valuables. Participating in the 9 pm routine helps people take that extra step to prevent theft from happening in your own neighborhood.
