Human remains were found in a wooded area near Virginia Avenue in Halfway, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded shortly after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, after two people found human remains northeast of the I-70 overpass while mushroom hunting.
Police say after initial investigation, there were no signs of violence or foul play, and the remains, in skeletal condition, were taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore.
The Sheriff’s Office currently does not have a positive identification of the remains at this time.
“There’s information at this point that we can’t make public,” said Deputy Carly Hose, of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. “Which leads to why we don’t suspect foul play at this point. Obviously we’re going to investigate the full extent, follow leads and identify this individual.”
This investigation is ongoing, story will be updated.
