The head of the Hancock Police Department is stepping down.
During Wednesday’s town council meeting, Rich Miller unexpectedly announced that he is resigning from his position as police chief, according to Hancock Mayor Ralph Salvagno. Miller led the department for the past two years.
Salvagno says under Miller’s direction, the department helped revitalize the police force and anticipates Miller’s last day to be within the next six to eight weeks.
“I certainly can understand it. With my own career, I get to the point where you say, it’s time to spend a little more time with family,” said Mayor Salvagno. “He’s put the department in a very good position. We have very strong officers behind him.”
There is no word yet on who will take his place.
