The Salvation Army in Washington County is facing donation shortages.
Captain Jimmy Taylor says the number of families in need increases during the summer months. They are asking for staple items such as canned foods for the soup kitchen and food pantry. The Salvation Army in Washington County serves nearly 150 people a week with a hot meal and another 300 a month through their emergency food pantry.
“This is not going to last us past Monday or Tuesday, and we need substantial food boxes to give out,” said Captain Taylor. “Vegetables and canned meat and protein and things like that you would have in your pantry, so other people can make real meals.”
You can drop of food donations at the Salvation Army located at 525 George Street in Hagerstown between the hours of 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Monetary contributions can be mailed to P.O. Box 747 Hagerstown, MD 21741.
