The permits, inspection, code compliance review committee formed last year — an initiative by the city to help residential and commercial property owners know what they can and cannot do with property in regards to complying with codes.
In their last meeting of 2018, the committee adjusted and updated code compliance making it easier for people to know how to comply with all of the regulations.
Additionally, they are allowing online permit signing, and showing lists of licensed contractors in the area to help people through the complex process.
Hagerstown City councilwoman Emily Keller says this is one way they can help development in the downtown area.
“We really want Hagerstown to be business friendly, so our code department, Kathy Maher, they’ve really been focused on how to be more customer service friendly and just how to make things easy to do business with in the city of Hagerstown. We are confident that the changes are going to be good for everyone,” said Emily Keller.
Staff from the committee has been checking in on the Maryland Theater expansion twice a day to help out and make sure things are running smoothly.
