Hagerstown residents get excited for spring

Maryland

Some waited all winter for this moment and it’s finally here.

March 20 marked the first day of spring and those around Hagerstown were celebrating this day.

Although the weather was only about 50 degrees, residents were thankful for the mild temperatures, especially considering the fact that it snowed last year on this exact day.

Lines gathered outside Rita’s Italian Ice as they celebrated the first day of the season with their annual free ice tradition.

Renee Ficken was there for the ice with her child and said, “This is Lilly’s second first day of spring, but this is her first year trying Rita’s. I thought she was old enough to try it this year and she is really liking the mango. It’s a little cold, but she is enjoying it.”

Along with free ice cream, Hagerstown residents said they are also ready for warmer weather and baseball season with the arrival of springtime.
