Hagerstown nonprofit makes it possible for 85 people to receive meal on Valentine’s Day

Maryland

Valentine’s Day, a day people share their love with cards, candy, flowers and expensive dinners, but Hagerstown’s Great Commissions Ministries are hosting the holiday in a different way.

85 people gathered for a free community lunch that is offered at the non-profit every Thursday.

It’s a Blessing to be a Blessing is not only the name of the organization but the mission statement behind their efforts.

Serving a hot lunch to anyone in the community that is in need of a meal took on a special meaning today, allowing others to feel the love on Valentine’s Day too.

Deirdre Norris, founder and executive director of It’s a Blessing to be a Blessing said, “They didn’t know what they were going to do for Valentine’s Day. They felt depressed, but they feel loved today. They bless me in return, they give me the strength.”

The organization is also seeking donations and volunteers throughout the year.
