Hagerstown man pleads guilty to stomping death

A Hagerstown man has pleaded guilty to a stomping death that happened back in January.

Clayton Pendergrast, 29, is facing multiple charges including second degree murder. He was indicted after punching, kicking and stomping 32-year-old Carter Hester.

The incident happened on North Locust Street, where police found Hester lying face down, half naked and covered in blood.

He wasn’t breathing, and showed no brain activity. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Witnesses told police that the argument started over money. As part of a plea agreement, the circuit court judge agreed to cap the sentence at 35 years.

Pendergrast is being held without bond and will be sentenced this summer.
