The Washington County Commissioners and the City of Hagerstown held a joint meeting Tuesday.
During the meeting, a major topic of discussion dealt with the current set up with the volunteer firefighters. Currently, the paid city firefighters in Hagerstown go out in other parts of the county to assist in calls, but are not compensated properly for those calls. A lot of the meeting was spent discussing what would be the solution going forward.
“It’s a matter of time how have things changed to make that sure that relationship is equitable to both parties and probably first and foremost that both the city and the county residents and businesses are being served by safe fire protection,” said Rob Slocum, Washington County Administrator.
Slocum says he is going to take what was discussed at the meeting back to his staff in the county.
