Electric car charging stations have been placed in downtown Hagerstown. Officials say the Electric Vehicle Institute (EVI) contacted the public works department with a goal to promote electrical vehicle use and charging stations.
As of right now, charging is free, from a grant provided by EVI. The rate to park in one of the four spaces is one dollar per hour. The other meters in the parking lot will stay at fifty cents per hour.
Eric Deike, the director of public works for Hagerstown says,”the electric is free at least for a while, possibly a year so we can promote it and get people used to it. But we did have to put parking meters there so that people wouldn’t just park there.”
Officials say they look forward to seeing the charging stations being used on a regular basis.
