Garden center fire under investigation in Washington Count, no injuries

Maryland

Officials are currently investigating after a Garden Center caught on fire in Washington County.

Crews were called out to 7437 Sharpsburg Pike in Boonsboro for a structure fire to the rear of a storage area of Sunny Meadows Garden Center. The fire was able to be contained without causing any injuries. Damages are estimated to be at least $60,000. Maryland State Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire. One witness describes what they saw.

“I went outside the door to get some more produce and I saw smoke everywhere,” said a Sunny Meadows Garden Center employee.

“Found machinery type building with heavy smoke showing from roof area. Building houses machinery and probably 100 to 200 bales of straw. That’s really what the fire is contained to at this point,” said David Hays, Director of Washington County Emergency Services.

Around 65 local community volunteer firefighters from Boonsboro, Hagerstown, Funkstown and Williamsport were on scene.
