Family Healthcare of Hagerstown raises awareness for diabetes

Maryland

Family Healthcare of Hagerstown is making efforts towards raising awareness for diabetes and helping those in Hagerstown, manage their condition.

Washington County has the second highest rate of diabetes deaths in the state, second to Baltimore City.

The Hagerstown Family Healthcare staff served diabetic friendly desserts to staff and visitors, sponsored by their employee health team.

Along with giving out the tasty treats, the staff provided wellness information and recipes too.

Kanya Anthony, call center operator said, “We can give them some ideas that are cost effective and healthy. It might help them to manage their chronic condition a little better. The pudding we made was a sugar-free pudding and we used fat free milk for that. Everyone seemed to love it.”

Family healthcare of Hagerstown is offering patients a living well class to help them learn to better manage chronic conditions like diabetes. The 6-week course will begin in April.
