It was two years in the making, but the Discovery Station in Hagerstown opened its latest exhibit to a record-breaking crowd on Saturday.
The new exhibit, called Discovery Town, soft-launched over the weekend. Operations director for the science museum, Brittany Wedd, said on Monday the number of visitors broke the record for a single daily visit.
Features that children can explore in Discovery Town include a doctor’s office, firehouse, a small-scale Hagerstown City Park and several other places.
The idea behind the exhibit is immersive play, Wedd said, adding that studies show that when learning is fun for children, they are better able to retain what they have learned.
