A new year means new repairs for local landfill compactors in Washington County.
Officials from the Department of Solid Waste presented reasons as to why the compactors in the 40 West Landfill need major repairs. County commissioners opted for option one within the repair report provided by the department.
The department will receive funding for substantial repairs for the machines. According to department official David Mason, one transmission has been out of order since October. According to a repair report, the costs of one machine’s repairs is estimated at approximately $550,000.
“They’re just old, one is 15 years old the other one is 12 years old, normally they have a useful life of four to five years we’ve been fixing them repairing them over the last 12 to 15 years and just time to take repairs to the next step,” said Mason.
