Community comes out to swing for a good cause

Maryland

The community came out to take a swing for a good cause at the fourth annual Jim Snead Golf Tournament in Hagerstown.

The tournament is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Hagerstown. Over the years, the club has raised tens of thousands of dollars for children in Washington County. The tournament is held to honor Jim Snead.

Snead passed away four years this past April. Family and friends who came out to the Beaver Creek Country Club say Snead was treasurer of the Kiwanis for more than 30 years and absolutely enjoyed golfing and volunteering.

“We wanted to participate as much as we could and put as much back into it as my dad did and how he would’ve wanted it,” said Snead’s daughter, Jill Mayhew.

“I want people to remember him as a funny person that likes to get outdoors and play golf a lot,” said Snead’s grandson, Will Mayhew.

The proceeds raised will go towards scholarships and grants for youth in Washington County.
