City Council considered a proposal that would hold all housing subject to the same standards.
On Tuesday, City Council considered a proposal that would require dormitories, homeless shelters and residential care facilities to be held to the same property maintenance standards. This means that residents who rent or are provided a homeless shelter would be provided the same inspections. Officials say lately there has been concern that all housing should be subject to the same standards, including the most vulnerable such as the homeless.
“That folks that rent or are being provided to them in a residential care facility or homeless shelter, that they’re being held to the same maintenance standards,” said Kathleen Maher, Director of Planning and Code Administration.
Whether there should be a fee or what that fee should be is still up in air.
