The Pulitzer Prize Board has awarded a special citation to the Capital Gazette staff for its coverage on the shooting in their own newsroom.
The Annapolis, Maryland newspaper published on schedule the day after the shooting.
Pulitzer said the citation honors the journalists, staff, and editorial board for their “courageous response to the largest killing of journalists in U.S. history” in their newsroom.
Five employees were killed in June 2018. The shooter, Jarrod Ramos, had a history with the local newspaper.
The Pulitzer board also awarded the newspaper a $100,000.
