Bowman Development has proposed a new development south of Williamsport, a space for mixed retail use.
The project includes a convenience store, restaurant, small office, gas pumps both auto and diesel and four short term truck parking spaces. The site will be located near Interstate 81 interchange with Lappans Road.
The project was approved by Washington County staff and the planning commission. The ruling was upheld by the County Board of Appeals.
Some residents are speaking out against the project and are appealing it.
The President of Bowman said this project would help with highway safety and more.
“At Bowman we are evaluating our different procedures because we would like to do this, and we respect the rights of a few citizens to protest it, but what’s happening is there is a lot more citizens that would love the services of this retail operation and what’s desperately needed is highway improvements that would be required by this project” Rob Ferree said, president of Bowman Development.
At this point, the county says there will be a public hearing and from there the Board of Commissioners will make a decision.
