Certain foods are linked to a better, all around mental health. People can suffer from a variety of mental health issues, including stress and anxiety. But according to a CNN article, studies from around the world show, that increased proportions of fruit and vegetables are linked to healthy mental health.
Mental health officials say they see many patients with all different types of mental health issues. They have employees who specialize in helping their clients to make better choices when it comes to food. They say they have seen positive effects from returning clients. “I have definitely had patients who can tell a difference when they are eating healthy versus unhealthy. They come to me and say, I do notice that I feel a lot better when I’m eating properly,” Fallon Crist said, an outpatient therapist for The Mental Health Center.
Health care specialists say, making small changes to your diet, like an apple instead of crackers is the perfect step in the right direction to keep not only your mental state healthy but keeping your body happy as well. They also say, while eating healthy is a step in the right direction it is not a treatment for health disorders. Anyone that may need help should reach out for it.
“It is not a substitute for medical help and treatment for mental disorders, it can be a mental health improvement. If you feel like you are suffering from any kind of mental health disorders like anxiety or depression, that’s something that you’re going to need to reach out for professional help.” Danielle Stahl said, a community health educator for the Washington County Health Department.
