Despite the rain on Sunday, Civil War reenactors came together to re-create the Battle of Funkstown, an important part of the American Civil War.
60 participants have set up camp at Funkstown Community Park. They say, it’s been nearly 12 years since the reenactment has taken place at this location. The reenactors were fully dressed in Civil War clothing, and ate meals consisting of salted meat and hard tack (a salty tasting cracker.) They recreation of history also included no showers. They say they do all of this to preserve the history of the battlefield and bring it life.
“We love what we do and the ability for us to come out and educate and keep the passions of history alive and really show kids and adults what it was like, what it felt like, what it tasted like,” said Zachery Bleacher, Captain of the 45th Pennsylvania Company K.
