9 purple flamingos on the move to raise money for Relay for Life

Maryland

You might have seen a purple flamingo or nine, around Washington County and every week these flamingos are on the move.

This is part of the Relay for Life of Washington County’s efforts to engage, educate and raise money to support their cause for cancer survivors.

The flamingo’s name is Rosie and her flock has their own fundraising page.

If you participate by donating, Rosie will make a special visit to your home.

Missy DeHaven of Relay for Life of Washington County said, “I took the pink flamingos and I spray painted them purple and last week when I was putting up the first location with the signs and flamingos, I came up with the idea for Rosie. This is Rosie our relay flamingo.”

Each person who donates at least $10 on Rosie’s page will get a personalized picture thank you from Rosie and if you donate $100 or more, Rosie will make a special visit to take a selfie and deliver a special prize. Just keep in mind, the flock is grounded so they must travel by car and are only able to fulfill personal visits within 30-minute drive of Hagerstown.

Currently the flock of flamingos are in the front yard of Tom and Helen in Smithsburg.
